Size: Roughly the size of a hand, which allows the book to be easily carried within a coat pocket or bag.
Cover: The title of the book is not present on the front cover of the book (only on the spine and within the cover). A circle is engraved in the middle of the cover with the words Borough of Huddsfield and within the smaller circle is Public Libraries.
The book is a dark olive green, however the spine of the book is incredibly worn and discoloured. This discolouring could be due to the spine of the book being over exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods (years). The texture of the front of the book and spine of the book have deep engraved leaf like patterns. The pattern is aesthetically pleasing and simple.
Inside the book is an advertising for the other "University Extension Series" The Industrial History of England, A short History of Political Economy in England, Problems of Poverty, English Social Reformers, Trade and Fiance in the Seventeenth Century, Victorian Poets, Shakespeare, The English Language, The French Revolution, Napoleon, English Political History, Psychology, An Introduction to Philosophy, English Painters, English Architecture, The Evolution of Plant Life: Lower Forms, The Chemistry of Life and Health, Air and Water.
There is an inscription that Amy Sharp (or her Editor) has included
"I give you the end of a golden string,
Only wind it into a ball;
It will lead you in at Heaven's gate,
Built in Jerusalem's Wall"

No dedication to anyone is addressed within the book.
The paper is quite thick, and the colour of the pages is a darker colour. Perhaps the pages were originally white and due to high traffic handling of the book throughout the pages have become darker. However the pages may have been created with a beige linen colouring originally.
No illustrations. There are many pencil marks within the book underlining lines and passages but there are no dates or notes that would indicate when these markings were made and thus are not insightful book traces.
Interestingly Amy Sharp has created a "Record of Dates" of Alfred Tennyson, Robert Browning, Elizabeth Barrett Browning
